What this MAC address tool generates

The generator uses browser cryptographic randomness and sets the local-administration bit while clearing the multicast bit, producing locally administered unicast MAC addresses. Analysis mode normalizes an address and explains its transmission and administration bits without claiming a vendor match.

How to generate or analyze a MAC address

  1. Choose Generate, optionally enter a three-byte prefix, then select count, separator, and letter case.
  2. Generate addresses, or switch to Analyze and paste one complete MAC address.
  3. Copy an individual value or the complete generated list.

MAC address boundaries

Generated addresses are suitable for testing and local configuration where locally administered addresses are allowed. The tool does not register addresses, check network conflicts, query an OUI vendor database, or change a device.

MAC address questions

What is a locally administered MAC address?
It is an address whose local bit is set, indicating local assignment rather than a globally assigned manufacturer identifier.
Are generated MAC addresses guaranteed unique?
No. Random generation makes collisions unlikely, but uniqueness must still be managed inside the network where the address is used.
Can this identify the hardware vendor?
No. This release analyzes address bits and formats but does not bundle or query an OUI vendor registry.
Does the generator change my computer's MAC address?
No. It only creates text values in the browser and never changes a network interface.
