Singapore 2026 Public Holidays and Long Weekends
Singapore public holidays are easy to scan once they are placed on a yearly calendar. In 2026, the important planning question is not only "which dates are public holidays?" but also "which holidays create long weekends, school closures, or leave-planning opportunities?"
Our Singapore 2026 holiday calendar now uses the official MOM public holiday list as its baseline. For school planning, check MOE separately because school vacations and school day-off-in-lieu rules are not the same thing as public holidays.
Singapore public holidays in 2026
| Date | Holiday | Planning note | | ---------------- | ---------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | Jan 1 | New Year's Day | Falls on a Thursday; one day of leave can create a longer break. | | Feb 17 to Feb 18 | Chinese New Year | Tuesday and Wednesday holidays; useful for a midweek leave plan. | | Mar 21 | Hari Raya Puasa | Saturday public holiday; MOE lists Mar 23 as a school day off-in-lieu. | | Apr 3 | Good Friday | Friday public holiday and a natural long weekend. | | May 1 | Labour Day | Friday public holiday and a natural long weekend. | | May 27 | Hari Raya Haji | Wednesday holiday. | | May 31 and Jun 1 | Vesak Day | Sunday holiday with Monday public-holiday treatment when the rest-day rule applies. | | Aug 9 and Aug 10 | National Day | Sunday holiday with Monday public-holiday treatment when the rest-day rule applies. | | Nov 8 and Nov 9 | Deepavali | Sunday holiday with Monday public-holiday treatment when the rest-day rule applies. | | Dec 25 | Christmas Day | Friday public holiday and a natural long weekend. |
How many long weekends are there?
The 2026 calendar has six practical long-weekend windows when observed Monday dates are counted: Apr 3, May 1, Jun 1, Aug 10, Nov 9, and Dec 25. These are the dates most likely to affect hotel demand, short-haul flights, and Friday/Monday team availability.
New Year's Day and Chinese New Year can also become longer breaks if you use annual leave strategically, but they are not simple Friday-to-Sunday or Saturday-to-Monday public holiday weekends.
What about Singapore school holidays?
MOE school holidays follow a separate academic calendar. For 2026, MOE lists school vacation windows from Mar 14 to Mar 22, May 30 to Jun 28, Sep 5 to Sep 13, and the end-of-year vacation from Nov 21 to Dec 31 for MK, primary, and secondary schools.
That is why a family travel plan should check both the MOM public holiday list and the MOE school calendar. A public holiday can create a long weekend for workers, while a school vacation can create a much larger family travel window.
Leave planning ideas
If you want efficient leave usage, start with the Friday holidays in March, April, May, and December. They are simple three-day breaks without complicated bridging.
For Chinese New Year, the public holidays fall on Tuesday and Wednesday. Taking Monday or Thursday and Friday can turn the period into a longer personal break, but workplaces may have different blackout periods or approval rules.
For regional travel, pair the Singapore calendar with nearby calendars such as Thailand, Japan, and China Hong Kong before booking flights.
Data boundary
The Singapore calendar uses MOM's public holiday page as its holiday source. For school schedules, use MOE's academic calendar. For payroll, leave entitlement, flight changes, or official HR policies, confirm the current official pages before making final decisions.
What to Double-Check
| Check | Why it matters | | -------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | Exact date | Some holidays depend on lunar calendars or official announcements. | | Observed day | A weekend holiday may move to a weekday in some places. | | Local scope | National, regional, public, statutory, and school holidays are not always the same. | | Booking window | Flights, hotels, and attractions can sell out before the holiday starts. |
FAQ
Should I treat this as legal advice?
No. Use the calendar for planning and comparison, then confirm employment, payroll, school, or government rules with the relevant official source before making final decisions.
